God is calling you.
Welcome to the vocation page of the Glenmary Sisters’ website. What
a joy it is to have you visit us on-line! It is our hope that the information you find on the pages of our website helps you get to know us better and invites you into a closer look at our ministry and life.
Walking with women as they listen and work to discover God’s plan for their lives is a true blessing for us. We are all on a journey towards holiness as we search for the path that leads us to God. In discernment we often ask, “What is God’s will in my life?” 1 Thessalonians 4:3 tells us, “This is the will of God, your holiness.” As we strive for holiness, we will find God. It is in one’s desire to live in holiness that we find our true calling.
The Glenmary Sisters strive toward holiness in prayer and in ministry. So often we see the face of God in the people whom we are called to serve in the southern, rural areas of the United States and Appalachia. We reach out to establish a Catholic presence in areas where there is no gathered Catholic Church or where the congregation is very small, usually less than 2%. We are in areas where there is usually a high percentage of poverty and many lonely and forgotten people. The needs are great in the areas where we serve. We not only find that God leads us to these areas, but that He has been there long before we get there. We find ourselves growing in holiness as we serve God’s people in our missions.
If you find yourself on a deeper journey toward holiness which may be calling you to religious life, please feel free to contact us. Mrs. Barbara O’Nan, our Vocation Facilitator, will be happy to walk with you on this journey as you discern a possible vocation as a Glenmary Sister.
As you spend time in prayer and discernment please remember what St. Therese of Lisieux said about holiness, “Holiness consists simply in doing God’s will and being just what God wants us to be.”
It is our prayer that you do and be just what God wants.
We look forward to walking with you on the journey.
