Sr. Bernadette Hengstebeck

Sister Bernadette Hengstebeck from Detroit, Michigan, was the first Treasurer-General of the Glenmary Sisters’ community. Sister has served in our Kentucky, Virginia and Texas missions where she was active in community and pastoral work. To assist her in her work among the Mexican immigrants, Sister went to Cuernavaca, Mexico to study Spanish so that she could help them obtain justice in job-related disputes and court cases.

For her outstanding work in this Texas community, Sister Bernadette was awarded Titus County’s Woman of the Year Award.

Sr. Bernadette is retired and now resides in Owensboro, Kentucky. She loves to crochet afghans and work on other craft projects.
